What we are most expert at is what we typically take for granted. But in evaluating you for a job, those are probably the things that are most important. As employers are increasingly recognizing, skills can be taught while personality is a reflection of who you are.
Of course, in evaluating a potential relationship partner, if we’re smart, we home right in on who someone is. And who someone is is expressed unconsciously, in their familiar skills that are so familiar, they take them for granted.
Become aware of your currently Unrecognized Skills by asking those who know you well, “What are my great skills that I take for granted?” You’ll probably be delightfully surprised. And when you subtly point those out or emphasize them in your behavior when you’re being interviewed, it’s almost magical.
